Disability Student Alliance - Jackson Reed HS (Nov 2022 to May 2025)

The Disability Student Alliance (DSA) is a club I started at my high school to provide a fun, safe, and welcoming environment to all disabled students and allies in my school. We also host events to help move my school to becoming more inclusive.

 

• Created weekly slideshows and help plan weekly activities and lessons for the club

• Co-ran weekly meetings, actively incorporating member feedback to improve engagement and participation

• Addressed and listened to members' concerns, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment

• Managed the club's Instagram, and TikTok

• Planned and lead inclusive events, such as the Disability Justice Fair, Friendsgiving, and "Spread The Word to End The Word,” to educate and engage the school community

• Advocated for inclusion by educating both 1000+ students and 10+ staff members about disability rights and best practices for inclusion

• Lead a team of four officers to assist in maintaining an inclusive, safe, and welcoming atmosphere and to assist with organizing events

• Lead succession planning alongside the sponsor and facilitated officer interviews and elections, ensuring a seamless leadership transition​

De-Escalation Volunteer at the People's March (Jan 2025)

• Attended specialized training and briefings in de-escalation hosted by Nonviolence Peace force

• Worked collaboratively with a team of de-escalators and Nonviolence Peace force to maintain a calm, safe and inclusive environment at the march and rally

• Actively engaged with individuals, offering support when needed and ensured they felt heard and understood

• Responded in a timely professional manner to messages in the Signal chat
